What You Can Do in the Hour Before We Arrive
A same day move lives or dies on how ready you are when the truck pulls up. If you have an hour, spend it like this:
Clear the path first, not the rooms. Hallway, doorways, stairs, driveway. A clear run from the furthest room to the truck saves more time than packing another box.
Strip the beds and pull the frames apart if you can, or at least get the linen off. Beds are usually the biggest single time cost in an unprepared house.
Empty and defrost the fridge. Even a rushed job needs the fridge empty. Prop the doors, put towels underneath.
Box the loose stuff, even badly. This is the one that matters most. Loose items are what turn a four-hour job into a six-hour job — every lamp, laundry basket and armful of coat hangers has to be handled on its own. Consistent boxes stack square and fill the truck properly. On a rush job, an imperfectly packed box beats a perfectly arranged pile every time.
Put valuables and documents in your own car. Passports, jewellery, medication, chargers, the kettle. They do not go on the truck.
Sort the parking. If you are in a unit block, ring the building manager about the lift and the loading zone now.
